Follow these steps for effective tile cutting:

  1. Prepare the tile: Clean the tile surface. Mark the desired cut line clearly with a pencil or marker.
  2. Position the tile: Place the tile on the cutter bed, aligning your marked cut line with the scoring wheel's path. Use the measuring guide for accuracy. Ensure the tile is stable and does not wobble.
  3. Score the tile:
    • Position the scoring wheel at the edge of the tile furthest from you.
    • Apply firm, consistent downward pressure on the handle.
    • Push the scoring carriage smoothly and steadily across the tile in a single, continuous motion towards you. Do not score back and forth.
    • A clear, audible scoring sound indicates a proper score line.
  4. Break the tile:
    • Once the score line is complete, position the breaking foot (part of the scoring carriage) directly over the scored line, typically near the edge of the tile closest to you.
    • Apply quick, firm downward pressure on the handle to engage the breaking mechanism. The tile should snap cleanly along the score line.
    • For larger tiles, you may need to apply pressure at both ends of the score line or use the breaking mechanism at multiple points.
  5. Inspect the cut: Carefully remove the cut tile pieces. Smooth any sharp edges with a rubbing stone if necessary.
